A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LAWRENCE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL COUGARS FOOTBALL TEAM AND NEW HEAD COACH DANNY ADAMS FOR THE SCHOOL'S MOST SUCCESSFUL FOOTBALL SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Lawrence County High School Cougars Football Team has completed its 1998 season with a most impressive 10-2 record, which is the most successful football season ever for the school; and

WHEREAS, the 1998 Football Cougars were the number one scoring team in Mississippi's Division AAAA for a regular season, and was runner-up for the District 7 Championship; and

WHEREAS, Danny Adams of Gautier, Mississippi, was named as the new Head Football Coach for the 1998 season at Lawrence County High School, and was ably assisted in molding a great offensive and defensive unit by Assistant Coaches Mike Davis, Craig Davis, Larry Collins and Trent Hammond; and

WHEREAS, individual team honors were numerous for this team including the naming of the Brookhaven "Daily Leader" Offensive Player of the Year, Lorenzo Townsend, and All-Division Players: Germaine Cato, Lorenzo Townsend, Mike Loving, Corey Magee, Brett Alexander, Allen Sutton, Aaron Pitts, Thomas Fortenberry and Terrell Showers; and

WHEREAS, fan support was an essential element in the Cougars' successful season, and it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes, who have brought honor to its school, its community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Lawrence County High School Cougars Football Team and first-year Head Coach Danny Adams for the school's most successful football season, and wish them continued success in their athletic, academic and career endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Coach Danny Adams and the Principal of Lawrence County High School on behalf of the team, and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
